What does a Professional Organizer do?

A Professional Organizer works with you to develop an organized system that compliments your lifestyle- not a "one size fits all" method. With a plan, provides direction by prioritizing projects.

Helps you start and finish projects. Most people get burned-out half way through- a consultant will get you past the finish line.

Keeps you focused-to avoid the temptation of distractions.

Gives a second opinion with difficult decisions.

Provides resources for donations and organizing supplies.

What’s the difference between a
Quick Fix Package and an On-Your-Own Package?

On-Your-Own Package is perfect if you are on a limited budget or just looking for an organizing plan with ideas and want to implement them on your own time.

Quick Fix Package focuses more on the "muscle" work- sorting, purging, filing, or recycling with the consultant to efficiently get you through the project (and have fun too!)

What if everything is a mess, where would we start?

The area that gives you the most frustration, or causes a lot of daily stress, would be a good place to start. Top priority areas could be the bills and important papers that stack up on the kitchen counter/desk, or the bulging closet next to the main entrance. For those that can't find their children's beds because there are too many toys, the kid's bedroom might be a place to start.

If you still can't decide, Homes That Work will help you develop a plan based on your lifestyle needs.

I’m so embarrassed.
Am I the most disorganized person you’ve ever seen?

There's no reason to be embarrassed- your situation is very common. All appointments are strictly confidential. The consultant will work with you to reduce the stress and anxiety of handling a difficult project alone.

I know how to organize, why would I hire someone?

TIME: Scheduling an appointment helps you make a commitment to getting organized.

PROCRASTINATION: "I'll do it tomorrow." Too many projects get postponed because you don't schedule the time to work on them.

MOTIVATION: big projects can be overwhelming. Working with a professional keeps you going at a comfortable, fast pace.

ASSISTANCE: friends or family aren't always available to "volunteer" their free time.

EDUCATION: Certified professional organizers® teach you organizing skills, something a cleaning service can’t provide.

We plan to remodel or build a new home in the near future. Should we set up an appointment before or after the project?

It depends upon the status of the project.

Before: Homes That Work can help you in the design phase of construction. When it comes to the plan work, most builders look at form, not function. Going through the entire home before you build will ensure that you have the extra storage space you've always dreamed about.

After: If the project is already in progress, and you are comfortable with all the storage plans, it might be best to wait until it's complete.

Our house is not a disaster it just has a couple of areas that need help? Do you organize small projects or just one room?

Yes. Often, it’s easier to work on smaller organizing projects intermittently than taking on a large makeover. It’s less overwhelming and creates a sense of accomplishment by seeing faster results.

Many of us are organized but lose motivation and creativity when it’s within our own space. A professional organizer comes in with new viewpoints, ideas and resources that we may have been too overwhelmed to see or achieve on our own.

I’m drowning in papers: mail, magazines, insurance claims, bills… how can you help?

If it’s any consolation, you are not alone. Most homes are not designed to accommodate the mounds of paper we accumulate daily.

A professional organizer can help you set up a paper management system in your home or home office by teaching you the different categories of paper and customize the system to your needs.
